The North Atlantic Basketball Academy (NABA) in conjunction with Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) is offering Graduate Fellowships for the 2019-20 school year. This program is for recent graduates looking to attain a master’s degree in business while playing professional or club basketball in Dublin, Ireland. This is a 1-year academic and athletic program. In addition to studying and playing basketball, fellows will take part in an internship through NABA, providing valuable work experience in selected areas of interest such as coaching, business development, social & community work, social media/marketing, and accounting.

Fellows will attend DIT as full-time international students. They can choose from a 1 masters year degree in International Business or Business & Entrepreneurship. Typical fellows spend 13-16 hours a week in class with classes running from September-May. Exams are in June and thesis work is due in September. While enrolled, fellows are entitled to take part in any courses/activities the university offers.
Fellows will play professionally or locally with a Dublin based club depending on skill level (note the high school varsity basketball is sufficient). Schedules vary depending on level and club, but fellows can expect to train & play 2-3 days per week. Additionally, all fellows will play for the DIT colleges team who also train two days a week and play in the colleges league. In addition to playing with a club, fellows can take advantage of strength & conditioning and skills sessions with our professional coaches, and have full access to the fitness centre.
Fellows will take part in an internship at either at NABA (preferable) or with a selected organization. Internships are 12-16 hours per week depending on academic and basketball schedules and will be tailored to provide experience in areas of the fellows’ choice. Hours will normally take place Mon-Fri, but players interested in a coaching internship will have evening and weekend hours.
Responsibilities:
- Youth coaching and mentoring
- Contribute to a weekly blog
- Assist in general office administration
- Help with the development of new business
- Help with the recruitment of new players
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the social media and marketing strategy
- Attend all practice sessions and games for a club team

Required Criteria
- Minimum 3.0 University GPA, or 6/10 Average
- Collegiate basketball or higher required for tuition remission
- High School varsity basketball for all fellowship positions
- Valid US or EU passport
- Commitment to spend the basketball season & academic year in Ireland (August-May)
- Proficient in the English language (all classes are taught in English and non-English speaking applicants must receive an 80 on the TOFL)
Preferred Criteria
- Collegiate Basketball playing experience
- Experience coaching basketball
- Fluent in English
Tuition Remission:
- NABA is offering tuition remission to fellows who are selected to play professionally for a club in Ireland. To be eligible for tuition remission, you must have played collegiate basketball or higher and have video from the last 12 months. Fellows interested in tuition remission will play on a professional team as well as the DIT Colleges team
- Fellows looking to play for the DIT colleges team and a local club team are also encouraged to apply, but will not receive tuition remission. Candidates applying to play professionally may be offered a fellowship with no tuition remission depending on the quality of the application and basketball experience.**
**Please note that there are multiple fellowship positions for both fellows looking to play professionally and locally. Fellows who wish to play locally are only required to have played high school varsity basketball. |
