Central Methodist University, a NAIA Institution is seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual to serve as a graduate assistant for the men’s basketball team. Qualified applicants for the position of Men’s Basketball Graduate Assistant will have the responsibility of working with the Head Coach to manage the sport and student athletes in the best interest of Central Methodist University and in accordance with all the rules of the Heart of America Athletic Conference and NAIA as well as a commitment to the full academic development of the student-athlete.

This candidate will serve as the Head Varsity Reserve Coach along with the Assistant Varsity Coach.  The Varsity Reserve program consists of around 20 players.  The GA will conduct separate conditioning, strength training, practices, and competitions with the reserve basketball program. The GA will work all varsity practices, events and competitions that do not interfere with the varsity reserve schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Candidate must be accepted into the Master’s program at Central Methodist University
  • Collegiate playing experience and or current coaching experience is preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and CDL license (or can obtain one immediately after hired)
  • Good organization and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must pass a criminal and license background check
  • Basic computer skills. (CMU is a digital university)

Job responsibilities include:

  • Representing Central Methodist University in recruiting and retaining student athletes.
  • Conducting coaching and instruction activities during practices along with conducting game day duties
  • Coordinating community service activities both on and off campus
  • Practice preparation for both Varsity Reserve and Varsity
  • Helping Direct strength and conditioning activities with Reserve program through CMU Strength Coaches
  • Video analysis coordinating / helping prepare scouts and player program playbooks
  • Set-up, Conduct and organize practice and individual workout schedules
  • Running camps and clinics during school year and summer months
  • Helping to ensure team compliance with all NAIA and institutional, rules and regulations
  • Monitor academic progress of student athletes
  • Responsible for driving 25 passenger bus on road trips with varsity reserve program
  • An outstanding ability to teach the sport to student athletes with an excellent knowledge of basketball

This position includes full Graduate tuition remission and stipend. Housing is available as an option on campus. Candidates must pass a criminal and license background check, be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays on occasion. Anticipated start date will be August, 2020.
