Description:

Graduate Assistants at Colorado Christian University (CCU) are responsible for assisting the head coaches in all areas necessary to ensure the spiritual, academic, and athletic success of the program. The graduate assistant must understand the dynamics of a small university setting and be a committed member of the CCU Department of Athletics as well as the program.   

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide assistance to the coaching staff in all functional areas of the program including:
    • Practices for varsity team
    • Home and away contests
    • Other aspects of the program as determined by the Head Coach (e.g. recruiting fundraising, travel)
  2. Integrate Christian faith into coaching, including Christian mentoring/discipleship of men’s basketball athletes
  3. Minister to those outside the team with the gospel through the platform of basketball
  4. Assist coaching staff with any additional responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Bachelor’s degree required, as well as acceptance into a CCU graduate program
  2. Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and ability to pass NCAA coaching test
  3. Two to four years of collegiate-level coach/player experience at the NCAA level preferred
  4. Experience with integrating discipleship and evangelism into a basketball program desired
  5. Exhibit strong knowledge of basketball and able to communicate that knowledge effectively to student-athletes
  6. Excellent communication skills and ability to interact appropriately with college student-athletes.
  7. Experience in a similar private Christian institution desirable.
  8. Job requires graduate assistant to obtain CDL driver license.

Nature of Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to walk, stand, sit, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, speak with clarity, and have appropriate vision and hearing capabilities. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. You will be required to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends. Local and regional travel is expected. National travel is possible.

  1. Committed follower of Jesus Christ, who believes there is no salvation apart from faith in his atonement on the cross, by grace alone becoming “born again” thus beginning a personal relationship with Christ, the Son of God.
  2. Able to effectively communicate personal faith and apply biblical principles and convictions in the workplace. Must have a strong sense of calling to the ministry of Colorado Christian University.
  3. Regularly attend and be engaged in meaningful involvement in a Bible-believing evangelical local church. Knowledgeable about the Word of God and passionate about Christian education.
  4. Must be a traditional evangelical Christian whose lifestyle is in consonance with sound Christian principles, is compatible with CCU’s Statement of Faith, and is in agreement with the Strategic Objectives promulgated by the University.
