Purdue University Fort Wayne Athletics is seeking a Special Assistant to Men’s Basketball Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. This position will assist in the development and promotion of a competitive NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball program, and oversee execution and assist in maintaining organization & quality control of all aspects of the Men’s Basketball program. Responsibilities include:
- Understand, follow and enforce all NCAA bylaws, league regulations, and university academic and other policies and procedures.
• Assist in all coaching aspects permitted per NCAA rules during team/individual practices and competitions with a focus on video breakdown, statistics, and coaching the coaches.
• Evaluate & critique specific areas of offense and/or defense for coaching staff use. Execute research projects on new basketball ideas to install.
• Assist in developing practice plans & program scheduling. Oversee weekly schedule and staff schedule. Oversee & develop Program Master Time-line. Direct student managers and/or GA’s. Oversee stating & filming practice.
• Oversee Analysis of Quality Control of the Team’s On-Court Performance.
• Assist Head Coach in Film Breakdown, Statistical Breakdown and Special Projects for team and opponent’s scouting.
• Oversee all staff software technology. Includes applications such as: JumpForward, Game Breaker, Dropbox, Synergy, Quickdraw, etc.
- Assist Player Development Coach with all duties.
• Oversee all Nutritional Supplies for locker rooms, pre-game, post-game, occasional meals.
• Create and foster an environment that promotes the overall health and welfare of student-athletes.
• Assist with maintaining budget tool updated from assistant’s oversight—manage recruiting budget. Coordinate & Oversee Organization of Staff Recruiting Efforts–Assist in recruitment of student-athletes who have demonstrated academic and athletic ability per NCAA rules.
•Organize recruiting visits on-campus and the development of recruiting materials; review and update the recruiting process. Manage recruiting database, service, compile video analysis and advise head coach of possible recruits to evaluate. Oversee creation of recruiting mail outs, digital slides & recruiting videos.
• Maintain synergy of assistant coaches calls & live evaluations.
- Direct Summer Camps
• Organize/Oversee Community Service & Booster Club Efforts.
• Constantly evaluate industry standards and unique areas to improve our presentation.
• Assist coaches with due diligence on all administration tasks that they oversee—team travel, gear, scheduling, academics, etc.
Other Duties:
Support and promote the Athletic Department’s mission, values and principles at public relations functions on campus and in the community.
• Participate in development activities under the direction of the Director of Athletics and/or Head Coach in conjunction with efforts of the Office of Development.
• Serve as an instructor for HPER (typically one class per academic year).
• Assume temporary administrative roles as required/needed by the Athletic Department.
• Participate in departmental meetings, searches, and committees as requested.
• Actively participate and assist in the evaluation of and formulation of departmental policies as requested.
• As requested, work with marketing to create positive publications benefiting your team, the Athletic Department and the general campus.

Required:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Two years of experience assisting a head coach in all aspects of the program allowed per NCAA rules for an administrative position associated with men’s basketball, with an emphasis in organizational oversight, coaching & organizing the assistant coaches, managers, graduate assistants, practice/play quality control, coordination of recruiting, fundraising oversight, and coordination of summer camps.
- Working knowledge of NCAA DI rules, fundamentals, techniques, and rules of sport.
- Ability to effectively communicate with student-athletes, coaching staff, faculty, and athletic department staff; oversee execution and assist in maintaining organization & quality control of all aspects of the program.
- Ability to assist in the development of game strategies as requested.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and remain in compliance with the Purdue University Motor Vehicle Records Check policy.
