The University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Athletics is accepting applications from qualified applicants for a Video Operations Director, Basketball (Men†s). Reporting to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, the Video Operations Director manages all aspects of video related activities and operations for men†s basketball, as well as participating in on campus recruitment activities with prospective student athletes; this individual is also responsible for identifying and developing video highlights for use in various promotional venues in concert with External Relations staff. Due to the national exposure that the men†s basketball programs receive, it is imperative that the Video Operations Director ensures that all of the responsibilities of this position are conducted within the Department, University, NCAA, Conference, state and federal philosophies, rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Head and assistant coaches in all areas related to video production, analysis, and management. Manage all video-related activities for the University of Massachusetts Men’s Basketball Operations, including the coordination, management, and video analysis of practice, opponents, and game film for study, development and scout purposes.
  • Plan and coordinate the development of analytics of player performance for the men’s team as well as opponents, including the monitoring of statistical trends of lineup combinations and communication of data prior to and during competitions. Plan and coordinate the development of individual player video edits of upcoming opponents including analysis of performance tendencies.
  • Create and maintain extensive database and video library of all plays including written diagrams and video supplement with ability to reference and communicate such information to the coaching staffs as required. Conceptualize and design, with input from coaching staff, videotaping plan with regard to camera positions and assignments during practices and games.
  • Supervise, manage and mentor the assigned graduate students and student managers assisting with filming duties.
  • Provide assistance to the staffs of Athletics External Relations for the development and use of all promotional and pre-game videos for the men†s basketball program. Participate in the production of highlight videos for promotional, recruitment, and motivational use. Identify, develop and provide materials for use in marketing opportunities for the men†s basketball program, communicate with the Athletic Marketing staffs, and assist in the execution if necessary.
  • Responsible for the preparation and ensuring the arrival of all equipment for transportation to athletic events. Participate in the coordination of film exchanges in accordance with Conference and NCAA guidelines; which includes documenting number of copies, adhering to deadlines, shipping guidelines, and formats. Perform routine maintenance on equipment which includes troubleshooting and maintenance of video equipment and software.
  • Participate in activities related to on campus recruiting of prospective student-athletes, as well as off-campus recruiting as requested by the Head Coaches and per approval through proper NCAA procedures.
  • Responsible for the strict adherence to all Department, University, NCAA, Conference, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required.

Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years of experience performing administrative and game support functions for a Division 1 basketball program.
  • Demonstrated experience and training with video editing software.
  • An understanding of the correct application of NCAA regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and public relations skills. Preferred Qualifications
    • Three years of experience of video and statistical analysis for a Division 1 basketball program to assist coaches in the preparation of a game plan.
    • Prior experience working as a liaison with Athletics offices/departments including Compliance and Marketing.
