Jones named Assistant Basketball Coach at Jacksonville State

Jax State Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ray Harper has added Kevin Jones to the 2024-25 Gamecock coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Jones comes to Jacksonville after a stint at Wagner College where he helped guide the Seahawks to a 2024 NEC Championship and just the second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. Jones and the Seahawks defeated Howard 71-68 in the First Four, earning the first NCAA Tournament win in school history.

Prior to Wagner, Jones spent time as an assistant at Morgan State where he helped coach the Bears to the MEAC title game in 2021. In his time at Morgan State, he coached six All-Conference selections and had two players named to the All-Defensive team.

Previously, Jones served as the assistant director of basketball operations and video coordinator at Radford University during the 2018-19 season. He made the jump to Radford following three seasons as an assistant at Norfolk State where he helped the Spartans to a pair of second place MEAC finishes.

The Baltimore, Md. native has also made stops at Coppin State University, St. Frances High School and has spent time coaching in the AAU ranks.

Jones graduated in spring of 2011 with a bachelor’s in sociology from Bowie State.

Jones joins Harper, Dennan Morrow and Tommy Wade serving in coaching roles. Kyle Voytko and Christian Bridgewater will also spend the 2024-25 season as graduate assistants.
