The University of Tennessee Southern and men’s basketball Head Coach Dugan Lyne announced the hiring of Jordan Counts as the team’s new assistant coach on Monday afternoon. Counts will replace former RedHawk graduate Caleb Chowbay who left the program in March to pursue career opportunities outside of coaching.
“I am very excited to join the coaching staff and the Firehawk Athletics Department,” Counts said. “The program has seen continuous improvement under Coach Lyne’s leadership, I look forward to being a part of taking it to the next level. Go Firehawks!”
“I am thrilled to have Jordan join our program,” Lyne said. “He has experience working for some great coaches in our business. His work ethic, experience, and ties to the Huntsville metro area will help us continue to build the men’s basketball program here at UT Southern.”
The Huntsville, Ala., native has spent the last two years as a graduate assistant at Purdue Fort Wayne following a four-year stint at the University of Alabama as a student assistant. On the Mastodon coaching staff, his main areas of concentration were team logistics, tape breakdown, and student-athlete skill development.
Counts, a native of Huntsville, Ala., graduated from Huntsville High School. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Alabama in 2020, and he completed his Master’s in 2022 with an emphasis on Organizational Leadership.
