Prior to entering the college scene, Kerner served as a COO of an AAU program in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he was also a high school coach for five years. He oversaw the mental and performance development of over 100 athletes from grades 3-11. In his first graduating class, Kerner helped seven of eleven players make it to a college roster from D3-NAIA.While at CCU, Coach Kerner helped lead the Eagles to their first national tournament appearance in three years (NCCAA Tournament). A major area of focus for him was on the perimeter players and their scoring ability. Compared to the 2017 season, CCU increased its three-point FG percentage by four percent and free-thorw percentage by six percent. Concerning the perimeter players improvements, Coach Kerner helped increase their three-point field goal percentage by four points, and free-throw percentage by 10 points. As a team, they saw a four-game win improvement over the previous season and earned a NCCAA Tournament birth. During the 2019 season with the Asbury Eagles, Kerner oversaw the mental and behavioral development of the key players for the varsity program. A major area of emphasis was mental toughness, handling crucial situations successfully, and overall leadership development. At IU Southeast, Kerner will focus on scouting, recruiting, game preparation and management, as well as player performance.
