Mercer head basketball coach Bob Hoffman announced Thursday that Josh Davis has been appointed as the program’s next Director of Basketball Operations.
Davis comes to Macon after spending five years as an assistant coach at Limestone College, a Division II institution in Gaffney, South Carolina.
He was an integral part of a five-year run for the Saints that included over 80 wins, three 20-win seasons, one Conference of the Carolinas regular season championship, two conference tournament titles and three NCAA Tournament berths.
Davis served as the team’s recruiting coordinator who was responsible for signing six Division I transfers, five all-conference selections and two all-tournament honorees. He was also responsible for many operational duties including day-to-day functions, scheduling practice, individual workouts, weights and travel schedules.
“Josh brings a great deal of experience at different institutions at different levels,” Hoffman said. “His ability to interact with s-a along the way is one of the main reasons that we are excited about his addition to our staff. His ability to do so many different types of things in that position is critical to our success. We are thrilled to add him to our family.”
Prior to his time at Limestone, Davis was a graduate assistant coach at Liberty in Lynchburg, Virginia. There he served as the head video coordinator for the Flames and also analyzed recruits and studied both team performance and conference trends to better prepare the team for upcoming games. Additionally, he developed and managed the program’s summer camps, put together practice plans and managed team travel and travel schedules.
Before he was on staff at Liberty, he played two years of basketball at National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I member Eastern Wyoming College from 2005 to 2007. While there he played in 31 games as a freshman and earned Academic All-American honors in 2006-07.
Davis then played two years at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas where he earned back-to-back American Southwest Conference All-Academic Team honors and an ASC All-Conference Honorable Mention selection as a senior in 2008-09.
That same year he was named to the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team and was the recipient of the Roger Erickstad Award given to the LeTourneau student-athlete who best portrays Christian leadership in the community, on campus, in the classroom and in athletics. During his time as a Yellow Jacket, Davis was also president of the LeTourneau Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and served as an instructor at the LETU basketball camps.
Davis holds a master’s degree in human services earned from Liberty in 2011 and is a 2009 graduate of LeTourneau University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies.
