Nearly six months after being suspended indefinitely by North Carolina A&T, head men’s basketball coach has officially resigned.
NC A&T Director of Athletics released the following statement today:
“North Carolina A&T Athletics is appreciative of the dedication coach Joyner contributed to the men’s basketball program first as an assistant and then as a head coach. We wish him all the best going forward.”
Joyner took over as the head coach midway through the 2016 season. During his tenure, he compiled a 50-72 overall mark. There was never any reason given for his suspension, other than it was a “personnel matter.”
After Joyner’s suspension, assistant Will Jones was elevated to interim head coach for the remainder of the season. He led the Aggies to a 14-5 record during his time as the interim, and was named as the MEAC coach of the year for his efforts.
Jones has not officially had the interim tag removed yet, but that is expected later this week at a Board of Trustees meeting.
