James Stafford is no longer the head men’s basketball coach at Ranger College (TX). He has been replaced by Larry Brown, who most recently served as the Special Assistant to Chris Beard at Texas Tech.
Stafford took over for Billy Gillispie at Ranger back in April, after Gillispie departed for Tarleton State. Prior to being named head coach, Stafford had served as an assistant for the previous three seasons at RC.
This will be Brown’s second stint at Ranger – he served as the head coach there from 2011-13. The coaching veteran has also been the head coach at Howard College (1986-87), Sam Houston State (1989-91), and South Plains College (1993-95). He previously worked on D1 staffs at South Alabama (1987-89), Clemson (1991-93), Baylor (1995-96) and Little Rock (1999-2000).
Brown started his career at the high school level, and was inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
