Joe Rome has resigned as the head men’s basketball coach at NJCAA D3 Community College of Philadelphia. Rome posted the following on Facebook earlier today:
“I officially have stepped down as coach from CCP. It was unbelievable experience over the past 8 seasons. I have many people to thank including our athletic director. Not many people would give someone a job like this who hadn’t coached for the previous 12 seasons. All the assistant coaches that worked with me and were a big part of the success we had. The players who i had the privilege of coaching over those 8 seasons. They had as much of an impact on me as hopefully I had on them. My family who supported me and understood the the times I had to miss out on certain things. I also want to thank Larry Conti. He had a major impact on my life. He not only taught me the game of basketball but he also taught me how to run a program and deal with situations. Coaching at the junior college level is not an easy job but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The experiences, Being able to win multiple championships, Being ranked in the top 10 numerous seasons but most of all being able to place every kid in 8 seasons in a four year school that did his job in the classroom who chose to do that is a credit to who all involved. I will always cherish those memories.“
This past season, Rome’s squad went 21-7 and captured the Region 19 Championship. The team advanced to the NJCAA D3 tournament, where they beat #7 Sandhills, and lost to #6 Dallas College-Eastfield.
No word yet on a possible replacement for Rome.
