I can confirm that Florida State College at Jacksonville’s John Putyrski is on the move, and has taken a job as a head coach in Slovakia’s top professional league. Also, it sounds like current FCSJ assistant coach Toriano Andrews will replace Putyrski as the program’s head coach.
Putyrski had a big-time two-year run at FSCJ, winning 57 games during his tenure. In year one, his team tied a program record with 26 wins, and surpassed it in year two with 31. This past season, he led the Manta Ray to the FCSAA DII Men’s Basketball Championship, the NJCAA DII Gulf South District Championship, and advanced to the NJCAA D2 National Championship.
Prior to his time at FSCJ, Putyrski spent time as a D1 assistant at both Texas Arlington and Illinois State. He also worked as a GA at Chattanooga, and as an assistant at Eastern Florida State College.
Andrews has been on the Manta Ray staff for the past two seasons. He has a ton of international coaching experience, serving as the head coach at Foshan Nanhai University in Guangdong, China, the head skills development coach for the Shanxi XingRui Flames of the WCBA, and as the head coach of Kaiyang Pro Basketball Club. Andrews played professionally from 1998-2010 with stops in Turkey, Spain, and across southeast Asia.
An official announcement on both of these moves is expected shortly.
