Shawn Neary will return to NJCAA D1 Gillette College as the head men’s basketball coach, as GC restarts athletics next fall.
Back in 2020, the college dropped all sports as part of a budget reduction, but announced their return this past summer. Neary had served as the head coach at the college from 2008 through the elimination of the program. Since then, he spent time as an assistant at D2 Montana State Billings (2020-21), and also served as the head coach at JUCO Williston State (2021-22).
While leading the GC program during his first tenure, Neary’s teams won 268 games in 11 seasons for an average of 24 wins per year and a .750 winning percentage. He led the program to two Region IX championships and three NJCAA national tournament appearances. Gillette’s highest finish at the national tournament was a third-place finish in 2016. Neary was named the Region IX and District IX Coach of the Year twice (2016 and 2017)
Gillette will return to the NJCAA D1 level and Region 9 in the fall.
