JUCO NEWS: Anne Arundel CC hires Delonte Joyce as Head Men’s Basketball Coach

Anne Arundel Community College has announced the hiring of Delonte Joyce as head men’s basketball coach, bringing an accomplished background in coaching, education, and player development to the Riverhawks program.

Joyce brings more than a decade of experience in basketball coaching, education, and player development. He joins AACC after six seasons as an assistant coach at Chesapeake College, where the program earned multiple national rankings at the NJCAA Division II level. During Joyce’s tenure, the Skipjacks won the 2023 Region 20 championship and advanced to the NJCAA Division II national tournament for the first time in program history.

“I am truly honored to have the opportunity to serve as the head men’s basketball coach at Anne Arundel Community College,” said Joyce. “It has always been a dream of mine to be a head coach. To return to Anne Arundel County and the Annapolis area where I was raised makes this opportunity especially meaningful. I am grateful to be able to give back to the community that gave so much to me and played a significant role in shaping who I am today.”

At Chesapeake College, Joyce played a key role in recruiting, game preparation, skill development, and program operations. He assisted in the development of nine All-Region 20 players, one All-American, and five NJCAA All-Academic honorees. He also oversaw the team’s social media presence and produced transfer‑ready highlight film for student-athletes, sending 21 players on to four-year schools during his tenure.

Joyce began his collegiate coaching career as a student assistant coach at Bethany College in West Virginia, and served as an assistant coach at Indian Creek School in Crownsville prior to joining the Skipjacks.

As a player, Joyce was a 1,000-point scorer at Bethany where was named conference player of the year, twice earned first-team all-conference honors, and served as a two-year team captain. He graduated in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in communications before playing professionally in Australia’s Big V Basketball League.

A native of Annapolis, Joyce was an All-Anne Arundel County player at Annapolis High School where he played four seasons under Head Coach John Brady.

“Coach Joyce has a proven record of building strong relationships with student-athletes, coaches and the local basketball community throughout his career,” said AACC Athletic Director Duane Herr ’07. “His experience, leadership, and strong ties to Anne Arundel County make him an ideal fit to lead our men’s basketball program.”
