JUCO NEWS: Austin named Assistant Basketball Coach at Ellsworth CC

Demontrez Austin has been named as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Ellsworth Community College under Coach Bryan Bender.

“Coach Austin is a high character & hard-working coach that will bring instant credibility to our program. Having played JUCO, NCAA DI, and professionally he brings an established pedigree and background that will bring a wealth of knowledge to share with our players and staff. He has climbed the ranks as a player, as a Graduate Assistant, as Assistant Coach at the prep level, and now at the collegiate level and we are grateful to have him on board!” said Bryan Bender, Head Men’s Basketball Coach.

Austin spent the last two seasons at Middle Georgia Prep where he served as an assistant coach.  He was responsible for skill development, academics, strength and conditioning as well as a lead recruiter for the program.

Prior to Middle Georgia Prep, Austin spent the 2020-21 season at Andrew College, a NJCAA DI program in Georgia where he assisted in practice planning, recruiting visits, as well as scouting reports. He also spent one season at Reinhardt University as a Graduate Assistant Coach where he earned his master’s degree in Sports Administration and Leadership.

Before joining the coaching ranks Austin enjoyed a great career as a player.  He attended South Georgia State for 3 seasons under Head Coach, Cory Baldwin. “I am excited for Mont to be joining such a great program. He has always overachieved on the court and in the classroom as an athlete, and he continues to work on his resume as a coach which I think he is growing in so much and will really take big steps while working for coach Bender” said Coach Baldwin. After completing his JUCO eligibility, he signed with NCAA DI Jacksonville University in the Atlantic Sun Conference where he played for current SFA Assistant, Tony Jasick.  Coach Jasick was quoted as saying, “What a great hire! Mont is a tremendous person with a high-level work ethic.  He will be a huge asset to Ellsworth both on and off the floor.” He also played one season professionally in El Salvador for Liga Mayor Baloncestro.

Coach Demontrez Austin is a native of Savannah, Georgia.
