Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Brandon Martinez joins the Angelina Roadrunners following an impressive four-year tenure at Coastal Bend Community College, including three seasons as the Cougars’ head coach. During his time at Coastal Bend, Coach Martinez played an integral role in producing two of the highest-winning seasons in program history. He also mentored the college’s only All-Conference All-American finalists, Jeremiah Anderson and Breion Powell. Under his leadership, Coach Martinez helped achieve an outstanding 95% transfer and graduation rate among his student-athletes.
Prior to his time at Coastal Bend, Coach Martinez spent seven years coaching at several Houston-area high schools, including Klein Forest, Aldine Davis, Huntsville, and Conroe Oak Ridge. While at Huntsville, he helped lead the program to a district record 43 consecutive victories and earned three consecutive Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
Before entering the high school ranks, Coach Martinez served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Texas A&M University–Kingsville, where he also served as the program’s Community Service Ambassador. His commitment to serving others earned Texas A&M–Kingsville the Lone Star Conference Community Service Award in 2013, while Coach Martinez was also recognized as a finalist for the NCAA’s top Community Advocate Award.
Above all, Coach Martinez is a servant/leader with a genuine passion for mentoring, developing, and elevating the lives of those with whom he has the privilege to work. His commitment to student-athletes extends far beyond the basketball court, and he brings that same passion for service, leadership, and excellence to the Angelina College Roadrunner program.
Coach Martinez is a graduate of the University of Houston, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in History. He currently resides in Lufkin with his wife, Linda, and their children Bianca, Cataleya, Ezmi, Liliana, and Brandon Jr.
