JUCO NEWS: Martin named Assistant Basketball Coach at Lamar State Port Arthur

Lamar State College Port Arthur Head Men’s Basketball Coach Lance Madison has announced the addition of Jeff Martin to the Seahawk men’s basketball coaching staff.

Martin joins LSCPA after serving as Assistant AD for Basketball Operations at Rice University, where he was involved in recruiting, player development, scouting, and the day-to-day operations of the men’s basketball program.

Prior to his time at Rice, Martin spent four seasons working under Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino at both Iona University and St. John’s University. During that stretch, he helped support programs that won conference championships and competed in postseason play, including multiple NCAA Tournament appearances.

Martin’s experience also includes a season with the Texas Legends of the NBA G League, where he assisted with scouting, player development, film analysis, and basketball operations.

A native of Katy, Texas, Martin brings a unique perspective to the Seahawk program as both a former player and coach. He began his collegiate playing career at Murray State University before finishing at LeTourneau University, where he helped lead the program to its first conference championship and the winningest season in school history. As a senior, Martin earned American Southwest Conference Player of the Year honors and was named NABC First Team All-Region and NABC All-America Honorable Mention.

“Jeff’s experience at every level of basketball, from Division I programs to the NBA G League, makes him an outstanding addition to our staff,” said Madison. “He’s worked alongside some of the best coaches in the game, has a great feel for player development, and understands what it takes to build a winning culture. More importantly, he’s passionate about helping student-athletes succeed, and we’re excited to welcome him to the Seahawk family.”

Martin earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from LeTourneau University and a Master of Business Administration from Stephen F. Austin State University.

The addition of Martin further strengthens an LSCPA program that continues to build momentum both on the court and in recruiting. His experience in player development, scouting, recruiting, and program operations will bring valuable insight to the Seahawk basketball program as it prepares for the upcoming season.
