JUCO NEWS: Oakland CC promotes Rushton to Head Basketball Coach

Oakland Community College Athletics announced the promotion of Associate Head Coach Jason Rushton to Head Coach for the OCC Men’s basketball program.

Rushton is no stranger to OCC basketball. He was a key member of the coaching staff that helped turn the program around last season, a season that saw the Owls finish with a record of 24-9, a 19-win improvement from the year prior, as well making the NJCAA Division II National Championship for the first time since 1987.

“It’s an honor to lead this great program and pick up where we left off,” said Rushton. “All the success we have had is a tribute to the hard work of our student-athletes and we look forward to continuing to make this institution and community proud.”

Rushton has had several stops in his coaching career at the high school level, including Birmingham Seaholm, Ann Arbor Pioneer, where he won 3 district championships, Saline, and most recently at Dexter, where he tacked on another district championship prior to his time at OCC.

He graduated from The University of Eastern Michigan in 2006 with a degree in Construction Management, where he also played baseball for the Eagles.
