Rick Karius has been named the Director of Basketball Operations for the men’s basketball program, Green Bay head coach Brian Wardle recently announced.
Karius will be working on Wardle’s staff for the second-straight season and first as the director of basketball operations. In 2013-14, Karius helped the Phoenix win the Horizon League regular season championship as the program’s video coordinator.
“Rick was a valuable addition of our coaching staff last season, and we look forward to working with him in this new role,” Wardle said. “He has a strong work ethic and passion for Green Bay Basketball, and I am excited to have him as part of our program.”
In his new position, Karius will oversee the department’s travel, student managers, video editing and film exchange as well as serve as the director of Coach Wardle’s Camp. Karius is a 2009 graduate of UW-La Crosse, where he was a four-year letterwinner and team captain. He also has experience as an assistant coach at UW-Superior and Southwest Minnesota State.
“I’m thrilled and grateful for this opportunity that Coach Wardle has given me,” Karius said. “I’m looking forward to continuing to work with the coaching staff and our great group of players as we chase another Horizon League Championship.”
