Kirkwood CC adds Lorbach to Men’s Basketball coaching staff

Kirkwood Community College men’s basketball head coach Tim Sandquist has announced the addition of Jacob Lorbach to the Eagles coaching staff.

“I am very excited to welcome Jacob into the Eagle family” said Sandquist.  “He is a hardworking and energetic coach that comes highly recommended.  His playing experience in the Big 10, along with his coaching experience at UCCS, St. Ed’s High School, Cleveland State, and Snow Valley Basketball Camps have prepared him to make an immediate impact in our program.”

Lorbach joins the Kirkwood staff from Colorado Springs, CO where he was an assistant coach for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, an NCAA D2 program that competes in the RMAC.

“I am incredibly excited and grateful for this new journey I am embarking on with Coach Sandquist, Coach Francis, the young men in our program, and the entire Kirkwood athletic community”, Lorbach said. “From the moment I stepped on campus, it felt like home. There is an atmosphere of excellence that permeates through every program. Our men’s basketball program has an impressive track record for winning championships and helping players successfully transition into the next stages of life.” Lorbach went on to say, “I am ready to give this program everything I have.”

From 2019-21 Lorbach assisted his alma mater St. Edward High School for Coach Eric Flannery. A powerhouse program in Ohio, Lorbach helped the program to a 40-5 record over his two seasons and coached 4 All-State players.

During that same time, Coach Lorbach also worked in Colorado Springs for the USA Basketball Junior National Team as part of the operations support staff.  He assisted with operations of the USA U16 training camp in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and the Junior National Team mini-camps in Colorado Springs at the Olympic Training Facility.

Lorbach got his start in coaching in 2017 as a Graduate Assistant for Cleveland State, a Division 1 school that competes in the Horizon League. During his two years on staff, he assisted the coaching staff in all facets of the program.

Lorbach is from Elyria, Ohio, and is a graduate of Ohio State University where he played for the Buckeyes under then-head coach Thad Matta. Lorbach helped the Buckeyes to the 2013 Big Ten Tournament and an Elite 8 appearance. He was named an Academic All-Big Ten Athlete four times while earning a degree in Education and Human Ecology.
