Winthrop head men’s basketball coach Pat Kelsey announced Monday afternoon the addition of Brian Kloman to his coaching staff.
"Brian is someone that I have known for many years through the coaching profession and have tremendous respect for," stated Kelsey. "He is a tireless worker and possesses and elite ability to cultivate relationships. He has gained a reputation as one of the best up and coming recruiters in our business. Student-athletes love him. I am excited to have him at Winthrop."
National basketball expert Jeff Goodman, an ESPN Basketball Insider, share’s Kelsey’s sentiments; "Brian Kloman is a rare breed of coach nowadays. He is someone who is the ultimate grinder and will turn over every stone in order to recruit a player. He has tremendous relationships throughout the country — and will be a quality addition to Pat Kelsey’s staff — which is as good of a mid-major staff as there may be in the country."
For the last two seasons Kloman was an assistant coach at Tennessee Tech. Prior to that he was at North Carolina Central where he was a major part of building the program that recently went 28-6 including a trip to the NCAA tournament. His coaching career includes stints at Pikeville College, Daniel Webster and Pfeiffer College. In 2008, Kloman founded recruitingrumors.com, which became one of the most popular sources for recruiting information amongst college coaches.
Kloman, an Asheville, NC native, is a 2002 graduate of the University of Tennessee. His father, Chris Ferguson, has been in college coaching for 27 years and is currently an assistant coach at Oklahoma State under Travis Ford.
