Knezovic added to Daytona State Men’s Basketall Staff

Daytona State College men’s basketball head coach Martin McCann has added a member to his coaching staff as he announced the hiring of Matt Knezovic. 

Knezovic, who has coaching experience at a variety of levels, spent the 2019-20 season as a Graduate Assistant at Central Michigan University. Prior to Central Michigan, Knezovic held assistant coaching positions in the infamous New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) and NIKE’s Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL). 

“I am ecstatic to announce the addition of Matt to our coaching staff. He has a proven track record in player development and is phenomenal at fostering relationships with players” said McCann. “His ability to relate and communicate with our players will be significant to their growth and development within our program on and off the court. Matt has come up through very successful programs both as a player and coach and clearly understand what it takes to create winning culture.”

“I’m extremely excited, thankful and blessed for the opportunity to be at Daytona State and work alongside Coach McCann and his staff.” Said Knezovic. “Coming to DSC presents an opportunity to coach, mentor and develop student athletes while competing at the highest level of Junior College basketball.”

Knezovic comes to Daytona State after spending the 2019-20 season as a Graduate Assistant at Central Michigan University where he worked under former National Coach of the Year, Keno Davis. In his lone season Knezovic assisted in the development of David Dileo, who finished as the MAC’s All Time leading 3 Pt Shooter. 

Prior to his time at Central Michigan, Knezovic was an Assistant Coach at the NEPSAC member The MacDuffie School in Granby, MA. During the 2018-19 Season season, MacDuffie was ranked as high as #8 in the Nation for Post Graduate Programs and finished the season 22-8. Knezovic coached and developed 3 players that were ranked in the Rivals Top 150 including projected NBA first round draft pick James Boutknight. Overall, 7 players that went on to sign scholarships at the 4 year level including Wake Forest University, University of Connecticut and Morgan State. 

In addition to his time in College and at the Prep level, Knezovic spent 3 years coaching with the Albany City Rocks of NIKE’s EYBL. During his time with the City Rocks, Knezovic coached a team that went onto win an AAU D1 National Championship as well as a NIKE Peach Invitational 16U Championship. Knezovic coached and developed City Rocks players that went onto to play at programs such as Marquette University, Butler University, University of Pittsburgh, Yale and many more. 

Knezovic playing career began at NCAA Division II program, Mansfield University. He later transferred to Hartwick College where he played three years and helped lead the team to 2016 Empire 8 Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. 

Originally from Albany, NY, Knezovic was an All State selection at Albany Academy where he lead the team to a NY State Championship in 2013. Knezovic earned his Bachelors from Hartwick College in Business Administration and is on pace to complete his Master’s Degree in Leadership this August from Central Michigan University.
