Georgia State head coach Rob Lanier announced the first two members of his staff on Thursday with the addition of Director of Operations Kyle Condon and Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach Justin Landry.
Condon follows Lanier from Tennessee where he served as the assistant to head coach under Rick Barnes, while Landry spent the previous three years as an Associate Strength & Conditioning Coach at UC Davis.
“I’m excited to welcome Kyle and Justin to Georgia State,” Lanier said. “Kyle has worked with me for the last four years at Tennessee and knows exactly how I want to run our program. He understands what it takes to be successful and will do great things as our new Director of Operations.
“Justin is one of the best bright and upcoming strength and conditioning coaches in the country. I was able to work with him while he was still young at Texas and was always extremely impressed. He is going to be one of the keys to making our young men physically and mentally tougher on the court.”
Last season Condon helped guide Tennessee to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and a No. 1 ranking during the season.
The Springfield, Va., native was a student manager with the Volunteers for four years and then rose to a graduate position, which he occupied for two years before being promoted to his full-time post.
During the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, he was responsible for several basketball operations duties, handling equipment distribution, oversight of the managerial staff and assisting with team meals and travel logistics.
He also provided the program with a steadying presence and superb institutional operations knowledge during the coaching staff transition during the spring and summer of 2015.
Condon, 30, was with Tennessee during the 2010 Elite Eight run as well as the program’s charges to the Sweet Sixteen in 2014 and 2019. He also played a key operational role during Tennessee’s 2018 SEC Championship campaign.
Serving as the Associate Strength and Conditioning Coach while at UC Davis, Landry directed all aspects of training for men’s basketball, women’s soccer, field hockey, along with men and women’s golf. He was responsible for the annual planning, periodization, sport analytics, individual program design, pre-habilitation, agility, lifting, core exercises, and regeneration sessions for each of those sports.
During his time at UC Davis, he traveled with the men’s basketball team and was a part of both a Big West Conference Regular Season Championship and Big West Conference Tournament Championship. For five months in 2017, he served as the interim director of strength and conditioning.
Prior to his arrival at UC Davis, Landry was the Basketball Performance Coach at Troy. He worked directly with the men’s basketball team and also served as the facility coordinator for the weight room.
His first full-time collegiate experience came at Texas where as a Basketball Performance Coach from May 2014 to April 2015. Prior to joining the Longhorn staff, he served as an intern at Baylor and was an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Father Ryan High School in Nashville, Tenn. He also worked at his alma mater Tennessee State as a graduate assistant for 18 months.
Lanier is expected to announce two of his assistant coaches in the coming days as he works to complete his coaching staff.
