Week two of camp is under way. Last week was brutal – all little kids. We billed this week as our “advanced skills” week – much better! We are actually teaching basketball, not baby sitting! Here are a few things that I’ve heard while teaching kids how to properly catch the ball while coming off of a screen…
• Butler DBO TJ Saint has been named as the video coordinator for the Detroit Pistons. Last season was his first as the DBO – he had also spent two seasons the DBO for the Bulldogs. Saint played at Mercer, and also spent time on the staff at Belmont.
• The University of the Incarnate Word has hired John Smith as an assistant. Most recently, Smith had served as a GA for Billy Kennedy at Texas A&M, and has also worked as a HS coach in the Dallas area. Look for the official announcement tomorrow.
• I have heard from a great source that Mississippi State graduate assistant Nick Lagroone has become the head coach at Greenforest Christian Academy (GA). Lagroone is a former standout at Southern Wesleyan (SC) where he scored 1,645 points and was a two-time NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. He had served on the Mississippi State staff since 2012.
• I can confirm that Jacksonville College (TX) assistant Ryan Glenney has accepted a similar position at North Platte CC (NE). Glenney had been on Jody Bailey’s staff since last summer, and has also bee an assistant at Western Texas College. Glenney’s replacement at JC will start next week – I will pass along his name then.
• I have heard that Blake Saunders has been named as the full-time assistant at Davenport University (MI). The former Michigan State graduate assistant was most recently an assistant at Ashland University (OH).
• Matthew Mossman has been named as an assistant at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (OK). Mossman joined the Saints staff after serving as an assistant at Norman (OK) High School for two seasons. Mossman also coaches with the Oklahoma Wizards AAU program.
