Florida Gulf Coast AD Ken Kavanagh is going to determine the fate of Head Coach Dave Balza possibly today, but definitely no later than next week. Balza is in the final year of a three-year $95,000 contract. He has been at the helm for the past 8 seasons, leading FGCU in it’s transition to DI. FGCU finished this season 10-21 – Balza is 145-101, including 31-61 since going DI three years ago.
Fairleigh Dickinson AD David Langford wrapped up interviews last Monday, and will have a new coach in place by this time next week. Langford said he wants to hire a coach with in a week after the season ends – and it just ended. FDU lost last night to Long Island in the NEC tournament to finish the season 11-21. Tom Barrise (NJ Nets – FDU alum) and Interim Head Coach Greg Vetrone are the leaders for the job, with Barrise having the inside track. Others mentioned were Ramapo College coach Chuck McBreen, UMass-Lowell coach Greg Herenda (a former Seton Hall assistant), and UConn assistant Patrick Sellers.
Kansas assistant Joe Dooley is no longer a candidate at UNC-Wilmington. He was contacted by officials at UNCW, but has taken his name out of the mix. Here’s our original list of candidates, with the exception of Dooley, I think it’s still pretty accurate…

A lot of new names have popped up at Wagner. Dereck Whittenburg is definitely still in the mix, but others that I have heard over the past few days are:
St. John’s assistant Glenn Braica (a Brooklyn native, Queens College grad, and former St. Francis (NY) assistant).
Houston Assistant Jerry Hobbie (Fordham alum and former St. Pat’s (NJ) assistant).
Former Boston University Head Coach Dennis Wolff (NYC Native).
Add these guys to the list that I mentioned earlier in the week:

Our sources tell us that after a 3-24 season, Alfred Johnson is out at DII Holy Family. There is no word on his replacement yet, but there are strong indications that it will be a Herb Magee guy.
