Lawson named Assistant Basketball Coach at University of Virginia’s College at Wise

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise men’s basketball program has announced the addition of Luke Lawson as an assistant coach.

Lawson, a native of nearby Coeburn, Virginia, joins the staff after a season playing last season for the Wiha Panthers Schwenningen in the German Regionalliga, where he appeared in 13 games.

Prior to that he played one season at UVA Wise after transferring in from UNC Asheville. While playing for the Highland Cavaliers he averaged 15.1 points a game and helped lead the team to the South Atlantic Conference Tournament finals. At UNC Asheville, he appeared in 78 games.

In high school, he was a standout at Eastside High School, where he was a two-time Cumberland District Player of the Year and was named the VHSL Boys Class 1 Player of the Year in 2018. He also won the Arby’s Classic Slam Dunk Contest in 2017.
