Lubbock Christian University men’s basketball head coach Todd Duncan has announced his coaching staff for the 2011-2012 basketball season. Duncan welcomes Jason Imes as his assistant coach and also adds Ron Mayberry and Dee Wilson as volunteer assistant coaches.
Imes joins the Chaps coaching staff after spending the prior 10 seasons at Texas Tech University working for Bob and Pat Knight’s staff. Five of the seasons spent at Texas Tech were on the full time staff and most recently as director of video operations. He joined the Red Raiders in 2001 while pursuing a Master of Science in Sport Management and has assisted with all the areas of the day-to-day operations. The Portage, Indiana native graduated from Indiana University in 2001 with a B.S. in Secondary Education. During his time at Indiana, he served as a student manager from 1998-2000 on the Hoosier’s staff overseen by Bob Knight. In 2003, Imes became Tech’s assistant video coordinator. He conducted the position for three seasons, and also served as assistant PE instructor at Harwell Elementary for the 2005-2006 season. Imes had been serving as the director of video operations since the 2008-2009 season. He also assisted in coordinating team travel and directed the Pat Knight Summer Basketball Camps.
Mayberry is a 2007 WJCAC Hall of Fame inductee after posting 386 victories at the junior college level. He began his coaching career at the high school level in 1962 and had his first head coaching position at the collegiate level in 1977 at Odessa College. After four winning seasons and a trio of NCJAA regional appearance, Mayberry went to Wayland Baptist University and served as head coach and athletic director for the Pioneers for three seasons. He went to South Plains College in 1985 and combined for a 204-58 record over eight seasons. His 1991 team was ranked No.2 throughout the season, and his 1992 finished fifth at the NJCAA national tournament. His final season coaching collegiately came in 2000-2001 at Howard College. In 44 years as a basketball coach, Mayberry never had a losing record at any school he coached (16 schools). With over 800 wins over his career, he coached teams into the playoffs for 19 straight years and was named Coach of the Year 11 times, including National Coach of the Year once. The former Texas Christian University star coached in three different Texas All-Star games and coached and recruited 11 players that made it to the NBA. Mayberry most recently served as the athletics director at All-Saints Episcopal in Lubbock.
Wilson is a former 2001 All-Sooner Athletic Conference member while with the Chaparrals. This will be his second season serving as a volunteer assistant after spending last season on staff. A Lubbock native, Wilson spent two seasons playing for the Chaps after transferring from Frank Phillips College. He came to LCU in 1999-2000 and claimed First Team All-SAC Tournament honors in 2000. Wilson graduated from Monterey High School and was the 1997 Caprock Tournament Most Valuable Player. He also claimed a spot on the All-South Plains Team by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
