Le Moyne College head men’s basketball coach Nate Champion ’14 filled out his coaching staff by announcing on Tuesday the hiring of Tyler Kelly and Luke St. Lifer as assistant coaches.
Kelly joins Champion in his first season on the sideline for Le Moyne after serving as Director of Player Development at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay where he was responsible for player management and program operations, and assisted in coordinating official and unofficial visits for recruits.
“I am very excited to have Tyler as part of our staff,” said Champion, who is entering his first season leading the Dolphins. “As a player, having a national championship under his belt, and also coaching experience at the Division I and II levels, he is going to be able to bring a lot to the table for us. He is a young coach that has a bright future. I am looking forward to helping Tyler continue on the path he is on to being a very successful coach.”
Prior to his stint at UW-Green Bay, Kelly served as an assistant at Florida Southern College for one year. Kelly was a four-year letterwinner for the Moccasins and played a key role in the Mocs’ NCAA Division II National Championship run during the 2014-15 season. Kelly was part of 109 wins during his playing career at Florida Southern and finished fourth in the school record books for assists with 498. Kelly graduated from Florida Southern in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of this basketball staff and this great athletic department,” said Kelly. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity and challenge of building on the great success that Le Moyne Men’s Basketball has had and competing in one of the best leagues in Division II. I’m excited to coach alongside of Coach Champion, who has become one of my good friends in the coaching industry, and look forward to the success that we will have together!”
St. Lifer joins Champion in his first season on the Le Moyne bench after working as the Director of Basketball Analytics at Bryant University, where he was responsible for analytics and video services. Before joining the Bryant staff, St. Lifer spent time during his undergraduate career as a player development intern alongside Kelly at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2017, as well as coaching at summer camps at the University of Iowa and Georgia Tech.
“Luke is a great addition to our coaching staff,” said Champion, who served as an assistant coach at Florida Southern during St. Lifer’s senior season. “He has a relentless work ethic and has a great mind for the game. He will be able to bring a very energetic personality to our staff and I am looking forward to seeing him grow in this profession.”
St. Lifer is a 2018 graduate of Florida Southern with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was a manager on the 2014-15 national championship team and played for the Mocs the following three seasons.
“I am beyond excited to join the Le Moyne basketball family and work for Coach Champion. Coach Champion was an integral part of my success during my time at Florida Southern and continued to be a mentor for me as I started my coaching career,” said St. Lifer. ” I’ve bought into his values and beliefs from the first day I met him and look forward to passing those down to our student-athletes to continue the championship winning culture here at Le Moyne.”
