Lebanon Valley College Basketball Staff Update

A pair of new faces will man the sidelines under Lebanon Valley men’s basketball head coach Brad McAlester this winter, as it has been announced that Jonathan Bishop and Brad Karli have joined the program’s coaching staff.

Karli joins the LVC staff after spending six seasons at Bloomsburg. He spent the previous 15 seasons associated with Elizabethtown, playing there for four years and serving the next 11 years as an assistant coach.

Karli helped lead the Huskies to three straight PSAC playoff appearances, as well as the program’s first postseason victory since 2001 during the 2013-14 campaign. He was also heavily involved with recruiting and the guidance of multiple All-PSAC players, including a pair of All-PSAC East selections in 2013-14 as Dontahe Jordan and Lorenzo Christmas were each named to the all-conference teams after both finished their careers among the school’s all-time leaders in multiple categories with over 1,000 points apiece.

At Elizabethtown, Karli played both basketball and baseball. He was a three-year starter at point guard and four year letterwinner, and helped the team make three consecutive postseason appearances. He led the team in both assists and steals as a senior and is eighth in school history in career assists (307) and ninth in steals with 142. As a baseball player he was a three-year letterwinner and a starting outfielder. He went on to earn all-conference honors and was team MVP and helped the team to a conference championship.

After graduating in 1998 Karli became an assistant for the Blue Jays and has helped the team compile a record of 181-117 over 11 seasons. The team made the conference playoffs nine out of 11 years, while winning three conference titles and advancing to three NCAA Division III Championship Tournaments. The 2001-02 team posted a record of 29-3 and reached the national title game. Karli assisted with the practice, recruiting efforts, and scouting of opponents for Elizabethtown.

Bishop joins the staff after two years as an assistant at Cairn. He joined CU after spending one year as the top assistant at Penn State Altoona.

Other coaching experience for Bishop included an assistant coaching stint at Lancaster Bible as a student for two seasons (2009-2011), as well as assistant stop at Elizabethtown High School for two years (2011-2013).

Bishop graduated from Lancaster Bible College in 2011 with a B.S. degree in Biblical Studies and Sports Management. He is currently working towards his M.S. in Counseling.

While at Shenectady Christian School, Bishop’s team in 2007 went 25-2 and made it to the Class C State Final Four. As an assistant at LBC, he helped the team to back-to-back NCCAA Division 2 National Tournament appearances. Bishop also aided his Elizabethtown H.S. team to a record of 33-19 over two seasons.

Bishop has also coached AAU teams Susquehanna Wildcats and Penn Motion.
