University of Minnesota men’s basketball coach Niko Medved has added Lexus Williams to the Golden Gopher coaching staff as an assistant coach. Williams comes to Minnesota after a five-year stint at Boise State. He replaces Chad Warner, who joined the Clemson staff following the 2025-26 season.
Williams joined the BSU coaching staff in 2021 as an assistant to Bronco head coach Leon Rice and served in that capacity from 2021-24. In that time, Boise State won 73 games and posted a winning percentage of 69.5. The team advanced to the NCAA Tournament all three years. In the 2024-25 campaign, Williams was elevated to assistant coach. While serving as an assistant coach, Williams helped the Broncos to a 46-23 record the past two seasons. He also aided former Bronco Alvaro Cardenas to 256 assists, which set the program’s single-season record.
Williams played for the Broncos during the 2017-18 season, starting 32 games. He averaged 9.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists en route to honorable mention All-Mountain West honors. Prior to his time with the Broncos, Williams played three years at Valparaiso, where he played in 82 games and made 44 starts.
Following his collegiate career, the Chicago native was drafted by the Texas Legends in the second round of the 2018 NBA G League Draft, beginning an 18-month stint in the professional ranks before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Williams earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Valparaiso in 2017 and a master’s in athletic leadership from Boise State in 2019.
