The decision was an easy one for new Lipscomb men’s basketball head coach Casey Alexander when it came to choosing his staff for the Bisons. Roger Idstrom, Dwight Evans and Steve Drabyn, who all served on Alexander’s staff at Stetson, will join the Lipscomb program to serve in the same roles they each had last season.
“I’m ecstatic that all three of these guys will be joining us at Lipscomb,” said Alexander. “Transitions are always difficult, yet having our entire staff on board will help us make quick progress. Continuity within the staff is a vital ingredient for sustained success and we are a like-minded group that works well together.”
The trio combined with Alexander to lead the Hatters to a third-place finish in the 2012-13 Atlantic Sun Conference regular season, the highest finish for Stetson since 2007-08.
“These guys will represent Lipscomb well in everything they do and our players will be better men because of the leadership these coaches will provide,” said Alexander. “We will tweak some roles, but for the most part we will pick up where we left off at Stetson.”
Idstrom and Alexander have spent 13 seasons on the same bench as the duo spent 11 seasons as assistant coaches at Belmont before both moved to the “Sunshine State” two years ago. Along with his stops at Belmont and Stetson, Idstrom has served on the staffs at UNC Ashville, Montreat, Wabash Valley College and Gardner-Webb.
Evans joins the Bisons staff with more than 25 years in the coaching ranks and has helped guide a number of NBA players. Before joining Alexander in DeLand, Fla., Evans spent time on the staffs at Missouri, UCF, South Alabama, South Carolina State and Florida International.
A 1,000-point standout A-Sun player for Belmont from 2000-2004, Draybn joined Alexander’s staff at Stetson in 2011 after stints at Sewanee (University of the South), Lees-McRae and Carmel High School.
