Long promoted to Associate Head Basketball Coach at Campbell

Chris Long has been promoted to Associate Head Coach for the Campbell Fighting Camels men’s basketball team. 

The Charleston, WV native has been a member of the staff Campbell staff since July 2019 and will be in his sixth season with the program this winter. He initially joined as director of basketball operations and was promoted to assistant coach in ahead of the 2022 season.

“I am thrilled to announce the promotion of Chris Long to Associate Head Coach,” head coach Kevin McGeehan said. “Chris has been an integral part of our program and will be excellent in this role. Chris’ meticulous approach to player development, strategic planning and specific game planning, along with his ability to relate and connect with players has been top notch. We get better everyday in part due to Chris’ approach to Campbell Basketball which is rooted in our vision of how our culture runs through all aspects of our program.”

During his time at Campbell, Long has helped guide the Camels to 78 wins, and a trip to Big South title games in 2021 and 2023. 

Long now has 11 years experience at the D1 level, having previously served a six-year stint at Elon from 2013-2019, his alma mater. Long was a four-year letter-winner for the Phoenix from 2007-11, when he graduated with a B.A. in psychology. He completed his career ranked among the school’s top five leaders in three-point field goals, assists and steals.

This promotion follows the previous coaching moves this offseason, that saw Kevin Grek and Emmanuel Matey each promoted to assistant coach.
