Lorbach Joins UCCS Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff

University of Colorado Colorado Springs men’s basketball head coach Jeff Culver has announced the addition of Jacob Lorbach to the Mountain Lions coaching staff.

“We are very excited to bring Jake into our family,” said Culver.  “He is a hardworking, passionate young coach that has a bright future in this business.  His experience in the Big 10, with USA Junior National Team, and with coach Flannery at St. Ed’s has prepared him well for this next step at UCCS.”

Lorbach joins the Mountain Lions staff from Lakewood, Ohio where he was an assistant boys’ basketball coach and video coordinator at St. Edward High School.

“I am filled with pride in becoming a member of the Mountain Lion men’s basketball program,” said Lorbach. “I am very thankful to Coach Jeff Culver, the entire staff, the student-athletes and UCCS for allowing me the opportunity to help the program succeed both on and off the court.”

For the past two years, Lorbach has also worked in Colorado Springs for the USA Basketball Junior National Team as part of the operations support staff.  He has assisted with operations of the USA U16 training camp in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and the Junior National Team mini-camps in Colorado Springs at the Olympic Training Facility.  Part of his responsibilities include helping the coaching staff in executing drills and assisting in game management during live games as well as providing feedback and corrections to players as directed by the coaching staff.

Since January 2020, Lorbach has served as the General Manager and assistant coach for the Great Lakes Elite Basketball Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio.  He created and established a new basketball team for submission into The Basketball Tournament.  As part of the process, Lorbach recruited professional players form the region to play for the Great Lakes Elite team.

A graduate of Ohio State University where he played for the Buckeyes under then-head coach Thad Matta, Lorbach helped the Buckeyes to the 2013 Big Ten Tournament and Elite 8 appearance and was named an Academic All-Big Ten Athlete four times.  He earned a degree in Education and Human Ecology.

Lorbach began his coaching career in 2017 at Cleveland State University where he was a graduate manager for the men’s basketball program.

“I am eager to start this next chapter in my life with Coach Culver and our basketball program and to help continue cultivating and enriching his culture of excellence so our players can continue to thrive on the court and in the classroom,” said Lorbach, who will begin at UCCS on June 1.
