“I would like to thank the search committee and Dr. Livingston for trusting me with the future of the Lourdes basketball program,” Gibson stated. “I am proud to be associated with a respected institution like Lourdes and I look forward to joining the community. We will work every day on being great teammates, strong student-athletes, and men of character. I am excited to get going and I look forward to building on the successes already experienced by this young program. I would also like to thank all of the players and coaches that were part of our program at Brescia over the last four seasons that helped make me a better coach and prepare me for this position.”
Gibson arrives at Lourdes from Brescia University in Kentucky, where he spent the last four seasons in the same role. He posted a 60-56 record with the Bearcats, serving as the third winningest coach in program history.
Gibson was the 2014-2015 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, and guided Brescia to the 2014-2015 KIAC South Division championship, the only conference title in the program’s history. Gibson led the Bearcats to the 2015 NAIA Division II National Championship, the lone appearance ever for the school. Gibson produced the school’s first KIAC Player of the Year along with a Third Team All-American, the first in program history.
In 2015-2016, his Bearcats finished in the top-20 nationally in assists, blocked shots, assist-to-turnover ratio, and defensive field goal percentage. Brescia was ranked as high as 27th in the NAIA Division II national poll, the highest ranking in school history. Two of his Bearcats earned First Team All-KIAC honors in his final season at the school.
Prior to Brescia, Gibson served as the Director of Basketball Operations at Murray State University for two seasons, including the 2011-2012 campaign in which the Racers went 31-2 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Gibson has also spent time as an assistant coach at Sewanee: The University of the South, Maryville University, and Indiana University Southeast.
Gibson is a 2003 graduate of Murray State with a Bachelor of Arts in history. He also earned his Master of Science in human development and leadership as well as a Master of Arts in United States history from Murray State in 2005.
