LSU has officially hired McNeese State AD Heath Schroyer as its new Senior Deputy Director of Athletics/Executive Director of External Relations, a move that is expected to trigger a series of changes in Baton Rouge.
Schroyer, a longtime basketball coach and administrator, most recently served as AD at McNeese State, where he was responsible for hiring Will Wade. Prior to his time as an administrator, Schroyer spent time as a head coach at McNeese, UT Martin, Wyoming, and Portland State, and worked as an assistant at BYU, NC State, UNLV, Fresno State, Wyoming, and Fresno City College.
According to multiple reports, the next move will be the dismissal of LSU head coach Matt McMahon. McMahon, who went 153-67 during a highly successful run at Murray State, has struggled to gain traction since taking over at LSU following Will Wade’s departure in 2022. The Tigers finished 15-17 this past season and have posted just one winning season during his four-year tenure.
The expected opening would pave the way for Will Wade to return to LSU. Wade, who was dismissed in 2022 amid NCAA violations that are no longer against current rules, rebuilt his career at McNeese under Schroyer, going 50-9 over two seasons. He then moved on to NC State, where he went 20-14 (10-ACC) this past season. Wade also has previous head coaching stops at Chattanooga and VCU, and owns a career record of 266-119 (.691).
More on these moves as they become official.
