Majerle Announces Coaching Staff

Grand Canyon University today announced the hiring of the associate head coach and assistant coaches for men’s basketball. Todd Lee, Mark Nelson, and Chris Crevelone will serve under first-year head coach Dan Majerle.

Lee joins the Antelopes as the associate head coach after serving as head men’s basketball coach at Division II Kentucky Wesleyan College for the past eight seasons, collecting an impressive 134-48 record over his last six years. He oversaw a program that made six consecutive trips to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and five to the NCAA Midwest Regional. For his efforts at Kentucky Wesleyan, Lee was one of 10 finalists for the prestigious 2012 Clarence ‘Big House’ Gaines Division II National Coach of the Year Award by CollegeInsider.com.

Lee’s coaching career spans 25 seasons, including 11 at the Division I level as he spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at UC-Irvine prior to taking the helm at Kentucky Wesleyan. During his time with the Anteaters, the teams posted three consecutive 20-win seasons from 2001-03 and won two straight regular-season Big West Conference titles in 2001-02. Lee also served as an assistant coach at the University of San Diego from 1989-92.

Along with his tenure at Division I and II schools, Lee has also spent time coaching in the professional ranks and at the junior college level. Lee was an assistant coach for two seasons with the Rapid City (SD) Thrillers of the Continental Basketball Association and began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Southwestern (Jr.) College in Chula Vista, Calif.

Nelson has served as an assistant coach with the Antelopes basketball team for the past

four seasons. In total, Nelson has 18 years of collegiate and USA Basketball coaching experience, including an 11-year head coaching stint at the junior college level. In the summer of 2002, he was selected as a coach for the U.S. Junior National Team, which included future NBA stars Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh.

Crevelone joins the GCU staff after spending four seasons at the University of Texas as a graduate assistant and video coordinator under head coach Rick Barnes.

Prior to his time with the Longhorns, Crevelone was an assistant coach at St. Edward’s University in 2008-09 and also spent time as the Head Freshman/Head Junior Varsity/Assistant Varsity coach at three high schools, one of which was Ironwood Ridge High School in Tucson, Ariz.
