University of New Orleans men’s basketball coach Stacy Hollowell has announced New Orleans native, and nationally renowned basketball scout Mal Mundy as the latest addition to his coaching staff.
As the founder of both HoopFest Tour Basketball, and the Big Easy Coaches Conference, Mundy is one of the most respected evaluators of basketball talent with connections spanning the entire country.
Mundy founded HoopFest Tour Basketball in March of 2012 where he worked as the National Recruiting Analyst and Director. The organization hosts tournaments, camps, and showcases year round and has helped thousands of student-athletes develop their game and find homes at the next level of basketball while becoming a trusted source for both collegiate coaching staffs and NBA executives.
Mal also was the Director of Operations and Marketing of the Big Easy Coaches Conference – an event he founded in June of 2020. Over the years thousands of coaches have attended the conference, with over 40 Div. I head coaches serving as keynote speakers. The annual conference helps coaches of all levels network and develop both their professional and on court coaching skills.
Mundy attended O Perry Walker high school for two years before graduating from Helen Cox. He was a four-year letterman in basketball between the two schools and earned a full athletic scholarship to Rise Academy in Philadelphia (now Rock Top Academy) before eventually settling at Chabot College and playing under CCCMBCA Hall of Fame coach Denny Aye.
“New Orleans is home and will always be a special place to me, I am excited and ready to wear New Orleans on my chest,” Mundy said. “Choosing UNO was because of my friendship with Coach Stacy. He is a proven winner, builder and grinder. I wanted to be a part of helping UNO get back to its glory days and the opportunity to work with Coach Stacy, this staff and these student-athletes is the perfect opportunity.”
Mundy earned a B.A in Education from Trinity Christian University in 2014, and a B.A. in Management from the University of Phoenix in 2024.
