Wake Forest Hall of Famer Randolph Childress will be returning to the Demon Deacons after being added to head coach Danny Manning’s staff.

Childress spent last season as an assistant coach and will continue in that role under Manning, who was named Wake Forest’s head coach on April 4.

"I am thrilled to have Randolph as a member of my staff at Wake Forest," said Manning. "I thought it was important to have someone who is familiar with the University, the players on the team and our recruiting areas.

"Randolph is one of the best and most beloved players in the history of Wake Forest basketball. His connection to Wake Forest, from current players, to former players, to alumni and fans, is something I feel is valuable to have on my staff. I have gotten to know Randolph, and he is someone who I think is going to be a star in the coaching profession."

A former All-American guard and ACC legend, Childress has been with the Demon Deacons since retiring from professional basketball in 2011. He served in an administrative role during his first season back on campus before joining the basketball staff in 2012 as the program’s Director of Player Development. Childress was elevated to an assistant coach in April of 2013.

"I am excited to be staying at Wake Forest and joining Coach Manning’s staff," said Childress. "Wake Forest is a special place. This is where I have always wanted to be, and I am looking forward to working with the new staff and with Danny. I’m ready to get started and make an impact on this program."

During his collegiate playing career, Childress spent five seasons with the Wake Forest basketball program from 1990-95. He earned All-American honors as a junior in 1994 and again as a senior in 1995. He earned ACC Tournament MVP honors in 1995 after leading the Deacons to their first conference title in 33 years.

Childress is the school’s all-time leader in 3-point field goals and ranks fifth in ACC history with 329 3-points field goals made. His 2,208 career points ranks second in Wake Forest history. Childress’ No. 22 jersey is one of 11 numbers retired by the basketball program.
