Siena Men’s Basketball Head Coach Carmen Maciariello has completed his coaching staff for the upcoming 2021-22 season. Marcus King, a coaching veteran of more than two decades who most recently served as the associate head coach at Tennessee Tech University, has been appointed an assistant coach for the Saints.
“Marcus is a tremendous coach and teacher,” said Maciariello. “He will assist in every aspect of our program, and will serve as our offensive coordinator. We are excited to welcome Marcus and his family to Loudonville.”
King brings a wealth of experience with him to Siena, having coached for 23 seasons across multiple levels of college basketball. The Warner, Oklahoma native arrives in Loudonville after having spent the past two seasons on the Tennessee Tech staff under head coach John Pelphrey. King, who was promoted to associate head coach on Apr. 15, served as acting head coach for the Golden Eagles’ first four games this past season.
“I’m very excited to join the Siena Basketball program,” noted King. “Becoming a part of Siena’s rich basketball tradition, coupled with Coach Carm’s guidance, was an opportunity I could not pass up. Having known Carm for over a decade, his passion to use the platform of basketball as a way to impact lives aligns with my personal and professional beliefs. My focus is to be a contributing resource for Siena College, and model leadership that will assist in the personal development of each member of the basketball program.”
King joined Tennessee Tech following an 11-year stint as an assistant coach at the junior college level at Lee College (TX) from 2008-19. As the program’s recruiting coordinator, he helped 50 players advance to four-year institutions during his tenure, including 39 who matriculated to the Division I level, and roughly 30 who went on to play professionally. Lee advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament in 2013.
King previously coached at the Division I level at Jacksonville University (2001-02), Division II at Eastern New Mexico University (2006-08), Lincoln (MO) University (1999-01), and Northeastern Oklahoma State University (1999), and at the JUCO level at Butler (KS) Community College (2002-04) and Connors State (OK) College (1998-99). He helped produce All-Americans at both Lincoln and Connors State, the latter of which ranked as high as third nationally in the NJCAA poll.
King earned his associate’s degree from Connors State College in 1996, his B.A. in political science from Northeastern Oklahoma State University in 1999, and his Master’s in Sports Administration from Eastern New Mexico University in 2014. He is also currently pursuing his Ed.D. (Doctorate of Education) in Ethical Leadership with a Social Justice emphasis from the University of St. Thomas (TX). King was a member of the undefeated 1993 Beggs High School team which captured Oklahoma’s Class 3A State Championship.
