Mark Lane returns to Cape Fear Community College having spent last season at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas. Prior to his stint at Hill College, Lane was an assistant coach at Mars Hill University for two seasons. During the 2013-14 season, Lane was influential in helping Mars Hill defeat Division I Furman University. A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Lane spent five seasons roaming the Sea Devil sidelines as the assistant coach. Coach Lane was instrumental in leading the Sea Devils to two Region 10 Tournament Championships, two Regular Season titles, two National Tournament appearances along with an eighth place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas in 2010-11. Lane also helped produce four All-Americans, Faronte Drakeford, Emmaunel Andrews, Tavares Speaks and Cephas Ogelsby. Prior to CFCC, Coach Lane was an assistant at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa (2007-08) and Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada (2006-07).
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Lane back to Cape Fear,” said CFCC Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ryan Mantlo. “He played a big part of helping to build the foundation during his first stint here. I know he will come in and continue to help move the program forward.”
Lane played collegiate basketball at Minot State University – Bottineau. Lane was named to the all-conference academic team. Following his playing days at Minot State, Lane continued his career overseas. His first stop was Pertemps Birmingham Bullets in Birmingham, England where he was the youngest player in the league. After a year in England he headed to Denmark to play for Horsens IC to finish his professional career. While in Denmark, Mark was a gold medalist recipient and selected to the All-Bosman team. In addition to his playing and coaching experience, Coach Lane has worked several university basketball camps at Michigan State, Michigan, Marquette and Duke.
“I’m elated to be back in Sea Devil blue,” commented Lane. “This is such a special place to work at. There have been great strides taken in the past three years and I can’t wait to continue that growth.”
