The Penn State Behrend Athletics Department and head men’s basketball coach Dave Niland has announced the hiring of full-time assistant RJ Marsh and volunteer assistant Malike Brinson.
Marsh was a five-year member of the men’s basketball program and graduated this past May with a bachelor’s in supply chain management. From 2019-24, he started 81 of 86 games played and averaged 7.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. Marsh was a four-time selection to the conference All-Academic Team and represented Behrend as an Honors Court selection for outstanding achievement in the classroom, helping the team garner the 2023-24 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award.
Brinson was a four-year member of the men’s basketball program under Niland from 2015-19. He started 57 of 95 games, averaging 5.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Brinson was named the 2017-18 AMCC Defensive Player of the Year as he was instrumental in helping the Lions maintain the number-one ranked scoring defense in the country with his defending on and off the ball. His 48 steals that season ranked him third in the conference, while his 1.8 steals per game was good enough for sixth in the conference.
Brinson currently resides in Erie and serves as the Apprentice Assistant Principal at Lincoln Elementary School.
Marsh replaces former full-time assistant coach Kevin Scuilli, while Brinson steps in the place of former volunteer assistant Kenny Fukon.
