Martin Methodist Men’s Basketball head coach Scott Combs has announced that longtime assistant Dugan Lyne has been promoted to Associate Head Coach and Will Martin has been announced as the program’s Assistant Coach.
“Our Martin Methodist basketball family is incredibly excited to announce the promotion and addition of Dugan Lyne and Will Martin,” Combs said. “Anytime you have movement on your staff, it’s a positive thing because it means guys are moving up in the profession.”
Lyne has spent the last five seasons as Assistant Coach under Combs at Martin Methodist and worked with Combs as a fellow assistant for two seasons at Austin Peay from 2008-2010. Lyne and Combs have combined to produce seven NAIA All-Americans, 13 All-Conference performers, the 2013 TranSouth Athletic Conference Player of the Year and the 2015 Southern States Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year.
“Dugan has been a tremendous asset to our program and there is no one more deserving of this promotion,” Combs said. “I am really excited for him as he takes the next step in his career. He is a workhorse that has a way of figuring out how to get the best out of people. Our success at Martin Methodist is, in big part, due to what he does on a daily basis.”
Martin joins the staff as Assistant Coach after several stops at NCAA Division I institutions.
Most recently, Martin served as the Director of Basketball Operations at the University of San Francisco under head coach Rex Walters. Prior to his tenure at San Francisco, Martin served as a Graduate Assistant and Video Coordinator for Men’s Basketball at the University of Tulsa from 2013-2015.
“I am excited to add someone of Will’s caliber to our program,” Combs said. “He has been a part of some great college programs and we look forward to having him on board. His role is one that is extremely important; to have someone dedicated to our player’s progress on the floor as well as outside of basketball. We have excelled in the classroom these past five years and Will has the right character and values in helping our players continue to find success on and off the court.”
“Dugan and Will are very passionate about this program and I believe that his eagerness to succeed will carry over to everyone on the team.”
