Eastern Illinois head men’s basketball coach Jay Spoonhour has added a second assistant coach to his staff with the hiring of Dejan (Dan) Matic. Matic joins the Panthers staff after working last season just down the road as an assistant coach at Olney Central College.
During his lone season on the OCC staff, Matic helped the team post 27 wins while capturing the Great Rivers Athletic Conference Championship. The team placed second in the NJCAA Region 24 Tournament with freshman Trivante Bloodman earning GRAC Player of the Year honors.
Prior to his season at OCC, Matic worked on head coach Rob Jeter’s staff at UW Milwaukee for two seasons as the video and academic coordinator. UW Milwaukee won the 2011 Horizon League regular season title and was a post-season NIT participant winning 21 games. During 2009 he served as the video coordinator for USA Basketball joining the team at the World University Games in Serbia where the USA earned a bronze medal.
