Emory & Henry College Head Men’s Basketball Coach David Willson has announced a pair of new assistant coaches on the Wasps’ staff in former Virginia Tech guard Matt Galloway and former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga guard Ronrico White.
The pair replaces Michael Wolf and Franklin Featherston, both of whom recently accepted other coaching positions. Wolf has joined the staff at Mount St. Mary’s University under former E&H assistant Jamion Christian, while Featherston returned to his home state of Arkansas to coach at the high school level.
“I am thrilled to add Coaches Galloway and White to our staff. Both come with the highest recommendations from their former coaches and have benefited from being leaders in excellent programs,” said Willson. “I believe they have bright futures in this profession and I am looking forward to working with them as we strive to help our team grow on and off the court.”
Coach Matt Galloway recently graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Virginia Tech. He was a three-year member of the Hokies’ basketball program, earning a scholarship his final year. This past season, Galloway played in 14 games helping VT to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 10 years. He was a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and was a member of the Virginia Tech Dean’s List. Galloway also assisted the Hokies’ coaching staff with various coaching and administrative roles. During the summer, he served as an assistant coach at Potomac Falls High School, John Champe High School, and Briar Woods High School.
Coach Ronrico White joins the Wasps after a stellar four-year career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. A 2014 graduate of UTC, White holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business and communications and earned multiple Dean’s List honors. In addition to serving his last three years as a team captain, White graduated as Chattanooga’s 14th all-time leading scorer with more than 1,000 points. He also ranked among UTC’s top 10 in made three-pointers, top three in free throws made, and top eight in assists. White comes from an accomplished basketball family as his father, Tony White, was an All-American at the University of Tennessee and his older brother, Tony, Jr., was an all-conference point guard for the College of Charleston.
Emory & Henry is coming off a 20-8 season, its first 20-win campaign since 1992-93. The Wasps also reached the championship game of the ODAC Tournament for the first time since 1994 and finished the season ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division III Southeast Region.
