Matt McCall steps away from Assistant job at College of Charleston

College of Charleston men’s basketball assistant coach Matt McCall has decided to step away from the program, citing personal reasons.

“First of all I want to thank Chris Mack, Matt Roberts and the college of Charleston for an unbelievable opportunity. Taking this job has given me a ton of perspective. After a lot of reflecting and discussing with my family, I have decided to step away from my role to pursue other passions and to keep my family in Florida. Two years ago when we moved here we didn’t realize the positive impact it would have. This is our home and this is what’s best for us at this point in time,” said McCall.

“I love the game of basketball and not closing the chapter on coaching, but I’ve found a new passion and path that I have really enjoyed in broadcasting. I’ve had great partners the last two years in NBC Sports, Sirius XM, CBS Sports HQ and Field of 68 and I look forward to continuing my broadcasting career with whatever new opportunities come my way. College of Charleston is a special place, and they have a team in place to win. I wish Coach Mack, the entire staff, and the players nothing but the best!”

“I understand Matt’s decision to step away from college coaching. I think he’s in a different stage in his life as his kids have grown, wanting to be more of a dad than a coach. I truly get that,” said head coach Chris Mack. “We will miss him but wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
