Matt McKillop Promoted to Associate Head Basketball Coach at Davidson

Davidson men’s basketball coach Bob McKillop announced today that Matt McKillop ’06 has been promoted to associate head coach.

“Matt continues to play a significant and vital role on our staff. It has been particularly evident as we have made the transition to the Atlantic 10,” said Bob McKillop, who just completed his 27th season at the helm. We find our program on very solid ground as we will welcome back another roster of superb student-athletes.”

The 2016-17 campaign will be Matt’s ninth season on the Wildcat bench, where he has helped his alma mater to 176 victories and 111-33 (.770) record in conference play, which includes a 24-12 mark in the A-10 the last two years.

In addition to Davidson averaging 22 wins a year during Matt’s tenure, the Wildcats have won five regular-season conference crowns, while advancing to postseason play seven times (3 – NCAA, 3 – NIT, 1 – CBI), including the last six years.

“He has worn all the hats and has had all the experiences of our previous outstanding Associate Head Coaches, Matt Matheny and Jim Fox. Matt is well on his way to preparing himself to be a very successful head coach,” commented Bob McKillop.

“He certainly has earned the promotion to the position of Associate Head Coach.”

Davidson concluded the 2015-16 season 20-13 overall, marking the fifth consecutive season the Wildcats have hit the 20-win plateau.
