Point University is proud to announce the promotion of Rodney Mayes to Men’s Basketball Associate Head Coach. Head Coach Jake Deer states, “I am excited to announce the promotion of Coach Rodney Mayes from Assistant Coach to our program’s Associate Head Coach. From the time I arrived in West Point, it has been a true partnership in our efforts to rebuild, re-energize, and re-launch this program. Rodney is an up and coming coach and is uniquely gifted in building relationships with our student-athletes. He will continue to serve our program and players well. I couldn’t be more excited to continue to partner with him in every aspect of the program, in our efforts to rebuild the men’s basketball program here at Point University.”

Before coming to Point, Coach Mayes had an exciting 8-year career as a professional basketball player in both Europe and South America. After playing professionally, Rodney coached a professional team in Europe for 4-years. Coming back to the states, he organized NBA workouts for both the Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors. Then Mayes took a shot at coaching at the collegiate level and was an assistant coach at the University of West Georgia for five seasons.

Rodney has been an assistant coach for the Skyhawks for the past two seasons and will be starting his third as the Associate Head Coach. He explains, “It has been a pleasure to learn and grow under Coach Deer’s leadership this past year. As we continue to build the program here at Point University, I could not be more excited and honored to lead and serve our basketball athletes and represent Point University as the Associate Head Coach for the Skyhawks.”
