McCabe added to Green Bay Basketball Staff

University of Wisconsin Green Bay Men’s basketball Head Coach Sundance Wicks announced the hiring of Jordan McCabe as an Assistant Coach.

McCabe, a 2018 graduate of nearby Kaukauna High School, spent last season as an assistant coach at West Virginia. McCabe was on the Mountaineer’s men’s basketball team from 2019-21.

“2018 Wisconsin Mr. Basketball is coming home!” said Wicks. “I am jacked up to add Coach McCabe to our already elite coaching staff and for Jordan and Olivia to come home to the Fox Valley. One of the most important aspects of our program is the transformation of the young men who suit up for the Fighting Phoenix. Jordan’s ability to connect with players on the floor and off is what stood out most to me. We want connected and competitive players, as well as coaches, and Jordan hits those marks.”

“Fresh off finishing an outstanding playing career across multiple levels, Coach McCabe is in the trenches teaching, motivating, and relating the most relevant and applicable skills of the game and life,” continued Wicks. “He is elite in player development because he utilizes training techniques that translate to the game. He gets the Green Bay Way. Gritty, Grateful, and ready to GET AFTER IT!  Help me welcome our newest assistant coach for the UWGB Fighting Phoenix, Fox Valley’s finest, Coach Jordan McCabe!”.

McCabe recently completed his collegiate career after playing two seasons at UNLV (2022-23). At UNLV, he started 33 of 55 games. As a senior, McCabe averaged 6.4 points per game and handed out 148 assists. Prior to that with the Mountaineers, he was twice named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team and led WVU in assists as a freshman. McCabe was named to the Big 12 Academic All-Rookie Team.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude to be coming home!” said McCabe. “My fiancé Olivia and I want to thank Coach Wicks, Josh Moon, and the entire UWGB family for welcoming us. They have all worked hard at returning the Phoenix basketball program to its rightful place and continue to push it forward. I promise to work every single day and do my best to meet the standard that has been set in Green Bay! Let’s RISE!”.

A four-year starter for the boy’s varsity basketball team at Kaukauna, he was named Fox Valley Association (FVA) Player of the Year as a sophomore while guiding the Galloping Ghosts to the Division II Championship Game, scoring 24 points. McCabe averaged 25 points as a junior, committing to West Virginia before the season. He finished his high school career averaging nearly 27 points per contest and shared FVA Player of the Year with current NBA star Tyrese Haliburton. McCabe led all scorers with 32 points in the state Championship Game that season and made the game-winning shot with 3.5 seconds left. McCabe earned Associated Press State Player of the Year honors and was named Mr. Basketball by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association. McCabe finished his high school career as the state’s sixth all-time leading scorer with 2,442 points.
