McCarthy named head coach at Northampton CC

Director of Athletics Troy Tucker has announced that Brennan McCarthy has been named Assistant Athletic Director and Head Coach of Men’s Basketball and Soccer. McCarthy comes to Northampton after serving as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Head Golf Coach at NCAA Division III Keuka College (NY).

A former NJCAA basketball player at SUNY Cobleskill, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree, McCarthy then moved on and played at NCAA Division III Brockport (NY), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. Following graduation from Brockport, McCarthy was named a graduate assistant at NCAA Division III Frostburg State University (MD) where he assisted with the men’s basketball program and in the Facilities, Events and Operations unit of the athletic department from 2011 thru 2013, earning a Masters of Education degree in Administration and Supervision.

"We are absolutely thrilled to get Brennan on staff," commented Tucker, "I think he brings the complete package in terms of work ethic, understanding the dynamics of the two-year level, experience at the 4-year level and a strong background in recruiting. He is a rising star in our industry."

As the Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations, McCarthy will oversee the Facilities, Operations & Events unit, the equipment room, and summer camps.

A former standout basketball and soccer player at Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, McCarthy grew up surrounded by intercollegiate athletics, with his father, Kevin McCarthy (2012 NJCAA Basketball Hall of Fame inductee), serving as the Director of Athletics and Head Men’s Basketball coach at SUNY Cobleskill and his uncle, Joe McCarthy, serving as an assistant men’s basketball coach and head golf coach.

McCarthy will assume his duties in late July.
